THE POETICS OF FORM: Words, Language, and Abstract Gesture

Nov. 12, 2026, 5:00pm – 6:00pm
A Group Exhibition Featuring David Hutchinson, Rebecca Rivard, and Giselle Landers
Venue: Mount Kisco Public Library Gallery
Curator: Monique Ford, MKAC
Exhibition Overview & Curatorial Statement
Language extends far beyond written script or spoken cadence—it lives in tone, structural rhythm, mark-making, and emotional resonance. The Poetics of Form brings together the abstract works of David Hutchinson, Rebecca Rivard, and Giselle Landers to explore the deep intersection between visual abstraction, poetic structure, and linguistic rhythm.
While traditional literature relies on structured syntax to convey meaning, abstract art operates through a visual grammar of gesture, color fields, texture, and spatial phrasing. Uniting the distinct practices of all three artists are unscripted dialogues with color, where dynamic, intuitive palette choices act as emotional inflections that accentuate the poetic tone of each piece.
This exhibition transforms the gallery space at the Mount Kisco Public Library into an immersive dialogue between visual art and literary form. Each artist approaches this conversation through a distinct creative lens:
David Hutchinson: Explores structural rhythm, geometry, and graphic cadence, echoing the measured meter, pauses, and architectures of verse, while engaging in unexpected chromatic pairings to heighten structural tension.
Rebecca Rivard: Investigates fluid mark-making and gestural expression, using vibrant, spontaneous color relationships to capture the lyrical flow, movement, and emotional undertones of poetic prose.
Giselle Landers: Focuses on atmospheric depth, subtle layering, and tactile surfaces, utilizing muted, veil-like color glazes to reflect memory, internal monologue, and erased narrative.
By housing this exhibition within a library, a sanctuary dedicated to the written word, The Poetics of Form invites viewers to “read” non-representational art with the same contemplative openness brought to poetry and literature.
